Door Left Open for Eagles, Heels & Hokies

Instead of clinching their first #1 seed in the ACC Tournament since 1981, Virginia left the door open for Boston College, Carolina and Va Tech to share a piece of the regular season title. Going into the last day of the regular season any one of four teams can claim the top seed for next week's ACC tournament, but Virginia will need a lot of help to do so.

Virginia can only clinch the 1st seed if Boston College, Carolina and Va Tech all lose. If all three teams win, the Hokies will claim the top seed based on their 4-2 record against the tied teams. The Heels would claim the 2nd seed based on their 2-2 record against the tied teams and their win against the Eagles who also finished 2-2 against the tied teams. The 'Hoos would be seeded 4th based on their 1-3 record against the tied teams.

A three-way tie between Boston College, Carolina and Virginia would place the Heels in the top seed based on their 2-0 record against the tied teams. The Eagles would be the 2nd seed based on their 1-1 record against the tied teams.

A three-way tie between Carolina, Virginia and Virginia Tech would place the Hokies in the top seed based on their 3-1 record against the tied teams. Since the 'Hoos and Heels are both 1-2 against the tied teams, the Heels would be the 2nd seed based on their 79-69 win against the 'Hoos on January 10.

If Boston College, Virginia and Virginia Tech are tied, the Eagles would receive the top seed based on their 2-1 record against the tied teams. The Hokies would be the 2nd seed based on a 2-2 record and the 'Hoos would be 3rd based on their 1-2 record.

If Virgina is tied with either Carolina, Boston College or Va Tech they will be the 2nd seed based on their split with the Hokies and their losses to the Heels and Eagles during the regular season.
