Ugly in Chapel Hill

I'm reading Tim Peeler's "When March Went Mad" now (review coming), and if it teaches you anything to relive those moments it is that anything can happen in basketball.

NC State visits #1 UNC on Saturday. This years UNC team, on paper, might not be quite as good as last years. In reality, I think they are much better. This years NC State team on paper, should be much better than the team that beat carolina last year. In reality they are much worse. It also turns out that State may be without Courtney Fells after an ankle sprain last night. Degand is already gone for the year, and Horner is hurt.

NC State is in a 7 game winning streak, but it is hard to find a wolfpack fan around that really feels like State has truly played a good game all year against a decent component. They've had some good wins, but we still haven't seen a half of basketball played like we expected.

I know Sidney has a little touch of magic, and if somehow his red jacket and talk of dreams and hope can bring out the best in his players for 40 minutes, anything can happen. But my guess... It is going to be one UGLY day in Chapel Hill for NC State.

Being optimistic aren't you...

The way NC State has played in perhaps the ugliest 7-game winning streak in Wolfpack history leds one to believe that Saturday is going to be a historic A$$ Kicking.

Carolina’s achilles is the point guard position if Ty Lawson gets into foul trouble, or gets hurt… Unfortunately, as woeful as Quentin Thomas’ play has been, I think he has still outplayed our point guards.

Let’s hope that Sid still has some magic left in the red blazer.

I've got to get you this Tim Peeler book to read.

Do you know him? Apparently he was at school same year as us.

I'm going to get a copy... should have asked for one for Christmas.

I knew of him... he wrote for the Technician while we were there.

I remember Peeler from Technician. Got the book for Christmas and read it right away. Definitely an interesting take from the players point of view. It was different reading Whittenburg and Gannon talking about each other. Also I laughed pretty hard at V's career advice to Gannon. The book definitely took me back.

anon, if you want to write a review to post, let me know. I'd be happy to make you a writer on here.

The book is very cool in the way he chose to do it. Learned a ton of things I didn't know, had a very honest spin on what went wrong with V after the championship, etc.

I loved the part at the end about GW Bush.

Was going to ask if anyone thinks a Sendek led state team would have gotten blown out as bad. Answer is probably not, but actually early sendek teams laid eggs just as big.

As long as Sidney Lowe runs an NBA style offense, State is going to have issues. His style of offense will only work if you have great shooters and a great point guard or your opponent runs a similar slow methodical offense. (this is why NBA basketball sucks) He’s going to have to change his offensive mindset or you’re going to wish you had not run Sendek out of town, which you shouldn’t have done in the first place.

I have to say as a state fan, I stopped reading advice for state as soon as I realized it was from a tarheel. Valid or not, coming after that butt kicking, state fans don't need to hear advice from heels.
