Handing Over the Reigns?

Multiple sources are reporting that Tubby Smith has resigned from Kentucky and accepted the coaching position at Minnesota.

Gee… where have we seen a coaching move like this before? Maybe no one is taking notes when Herb Sendek talks about the finer points of hanging onto a lead late in a game, but apparently Steve Alford and Tubby Smith were paying attention when he discussed exit strategies.
Coaches will be listening to Tubby Smith’s exit strategy lectures in the future. Reports indicate that Kentucky will pay Smith the $1.3 million bonus he was due on April 3.

Does this open the door for Rick Pitino’s return to Lexington? Thomas Wolf said, “You can’t go home again.” Maybe in this day and age you can, if the price is right… Only time will tell.

I actually read that Thomas Wolfe book this year. It somewhat sucked by the way. But, you really can't. No way you got from Louisville to Kentucky directly. It just can't be done I don't think.

Do these opennings shake up what looks like a very stable situation in the ACC? Anyone going to be tempted by the Kentucky job? SEC has no rules about jumping from one SEC school to another. I assume Donavan goes nowhere, but what about a move from Tennessee to Kentucky? Got to think that is a move up, right?

I would be surprised if Pitino went back, but the way this news day has been, it wouldn't stun me like the McRoberts news did.

Who in the ACC would be considered? Before last year, Prosser. After the last couple of seasons at Wake, I don't know. Who else in the league is a hot enough commodity? Roy? no way he leaves UNC. K?...

Leitao?

Given some of the issues that Tubby had a UK, I don't think Leitao is a possibility...
